"We have to find a common ground between the productive sector and universities in order to be able to share knowledge. We
already have some disciplines addressing sustainability, but I believe that after the Global Forum, this will be extended
to all courses."
Zaki Akel Sobrinho, director of the Applied Social Sciences department of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR)
Global Forum Latin America Includes
Sustainability in Organizational Agendas
The Global Forum Latin America (GFAL) is a worldwide movement to talk about innovation in education
for sustainability.
Although new, the sustainability theme has already motivated corporations to invest in
initiatives that optimize the use of resources, while at the same time promoting social development andenvironmental conservation.
These new objectives require responsible professionals committed to social and environmental issues, capable of facing up
to the challenges of sustainable development in its three pillars – economic, social, and environmental – and
keen onpromoting its practice.
It is in this context that the Global Forum creates its space. By fostering dialog
among the theory of the academia, the practices of the private sector, the development and management of government legislation,
and the flexibility of the civil society, this movement aims at collectively building new business alternatives, discussing
education for sustainability and, first and foremost, by heralding the path towards the construction of effectively sustainable
businesses capable of securing for the future generations the right to life with the same quality, or better, than ours.
Objectives
- Contribute to strengthening the relationship between the corporate world and
the academia to permanently cement their partnership in terms of production, knowledge use and dissemination;
- Share corporate knowledge and latest scientific studies on sustainable development
and ensuing educational demands vis-à-vis changes and development; and
- Identify good corporate practices and generate proposals for innovation and
change in education.
