"We have to find a common ground between the productive sector and universities in order to be able to share knowledge. We
already have some disciplines addressing sustainability, but I believe that after the Global Forum, this will be extended
to all courses."
Zaki Akel Sobrinho, director of the Applied Social Sciences department of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR)
According
to the mayor of the city of Sao Paulo, who is also Professor of Accounting, Economics and Management at the Management School
of the University of São Paulo (USP), José Roberto Kassai, academia is beginning to awaken to the concepts of
sustainability. He emphasizes that, "What is lacking is an integration in which the professionals look at different
areas of their training and awaken to the need for collective actions that address not only economic development but also
to develop integration of environmental, cultural and social aspects."
For Waverli Maria Matarazzo Neuberger, coordinator
of the Environmental Agency of Methodist University of São Paulo, sustainability is a huge challenge: "If we do not
reach all levels, involving representatives from all sectors, no change will happen. The process must be built in a
participatory manner.”
